No school is complete without an English class; without English teachers there would be no grammar, punctuation, or even knowledge of those things. Mrs. Franco teaches middle school English at TLC and she says she enjoys her job. The purpose of her class is "to help students grow in literacy and help them become better prepared for high school and beyond." For a class that has such an important role, Mrs. Franco is the person for the position because she understands the responsibility of teaching an English class. In my interview with her she stated the following: " Yes, I feel that it takes more commitment from my part because what a normal teacher has to teach in five days, I only have two days to teach." When asked what she thought of the class, Mrs. Franco responded, " I think it's a good way for students to enrich their learning and gain important skills." This English class is a good environment for students to learn the essential topics in English because first of all they have a dedicated and excellent teacher, also because there is a better chance for one-on-one assistance with the teacher as well as a safe and clean environment for the students. Within the many activities done in her class, Mrs. Franco focuses on literature, studying grammar and practicing its uses, as well as studying different kinds of writing. The students read many books and novels as a class. What inspired Mrs. Franco to be an English teacher in the first place? When she was in middle school, "One of my teachers helped me learn to love the written word, and since then I wanted to help students learn to love writing and reading." said Mrs. Franco. An important quality in a teacher is to make sure her students are learning the most possible and succeed. She certainly showed that trait when I asked her what her favorite activity had been and she responded, " My favorite activity was listening to the student's persuasive speeches because they were really creative." She feels content because she has seen progress in her students from first semester up until now. It's good to know that we have many dedicated teachers intent on making sure we learn and succeed in life. Mrs. Franco is just one example because I'm sure there are many more excellent teachers as well. I hope we as students can take the time to understand and appreciate all our teachers because they take the time to teach us many things and prepare us for our future.
